Can you do Pilates if you have arthritis?
Yes, absolutely!
We would love to hear from those of you who have some form of arthritis and are willing to share your experience with your fellow students and/or teachers.
Pilates can be a marvelous way to relieve arthritis pain, especially because it addresses efficient posture which in turn puts the body in a more aligned and tension-free or reduced tension state. This only can help to alliviate a majority of arthritic discomfort.
Depending on the severity of pain, however, you will need to monitor how much you do and how hard you push. Everyone will have a different threshold at which they have done enough to feel better but not so much that the joint or area becomes aggrevated. This takes monitoring on the part of the student and the teacher.
